Scillies Helicopter Air Service Saved by UKIP
Date: 16/10/2003
Scillies Helicopter Air Service
Following the successful amendment to the EU law on passenger compensation, at the initiative of Graham Booth MEP, the Operations Director of British International, Tony Jones met Graham Booth today at the Heliport in Penzance (see attached photos)
Tony Jones expressed his delight and relief at the news from Brussels and thanked Graham Booth for his efforts in saving the service to the Scillies.
Tony Jones and 2 colleagues, backed by 3i and the Bank of Scotland, bought the business 4 years ago, making a huge personal investment.
"If this law had gone through, the business would have been in serious danger of closing, denying the Scillonians an air service during the winter months." Said Tony Jones.
"We have recently spent £1 million on new facilities and are about to commit to further significant investments on upgrading the fleet of helicopters, all of which would have been wasted. Unquote

More than 500 people congregated at the Great Hall at Exeter University
From the UKIP Press Office
Trago Mills Centre

For Immediate Release
More than 500 people congregated at the Great Hall at Exeter University on
Saturday to hear a list of brilliant speeches from home and overseas, on
the subject of the UKIP policy of withdrawing from the EU. The prospective UKIP
MEP candidates for the Southwest were also paraded to the audience, as they
begin their campaign for election to the European Parliament. (UKIP pursues MEP
membership to gather facts about the EU in order to counter the "spin" and
inform people of the truth behind the corrupt and unaccountable institutions that
make up the EU .)
Party Leader Roger Knapman reported that membership had increased by 62% in
the last 12 months and in the run up to the European elections in June
2004, he expected this to accelerate as people became more aware of the huge cost of
membership of the EU. The National Press was now tuned into the issues and was
increasingly supporting the argument for withdrawal, and a referendum on the
proposed EU constitution.
Nigel Farage, MEP, reminded his audience that the UK does not have to be a
member of the EU to trade with it, and in a recent BBC programme where he
debated this issue with Neil Kinnock, the latter confirmed that IF the UK
were towithdraw from the EU, there would be no loss of jobs or trading
relationships between the UK and the EU.
Lord Stoddart of Swindon gave a rousing and passionate speech on his
experience in the House of Lords and reported that a motion was now in hand
to appoint a Select Committee of the House to investigate the effects of British
withdrawal from the EU.
One of the warmest welcomes of the day was for Marielou Guerrero from
Gibraltar who gave an amusing and instructive talk on the Gibraltar
experience of resisting the double-dealing of Jack Straw and Tony Blair in their efforts
to dump Gibraltar into the lap of the Spanish after 300 years of it being a
Crown dependency.
Sir Patrick Moore delivered a very patriotic message by video, as he was
unable to travel, and urged everyone to fight for the independence of the
UK and keep asking the question: "Who governs Britain?"
The all-day meeting ended with the rousing singing of all 3 verses of the
national Anthem, which include the words demanding that the Queen protect
our laws, and there are signs that she is at last prepared to do that over the
issue of the proposed EU Constitution.
Notes for Editors:
UKIP is the 4th largest political party in the UK, and is the only one of
these dedicated to withdrawal from the EU, and the restyoration of a free
trade agreement, which is what we thought we voted for in the first place.

Tory rebel victory would leave voters choice of three Social Democratic parties
The U.K. Independence Party said this afternoon that British voters would be left with a choice between three pro-EU, Social Democrat Parties if Conservative MPs voted against Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith in tomorrows confidence vote.
Roger Knapman, UKIP leader and a former Maastricht rebel alongside Iain Duncan Smith, said, Iain is the only Conservative leadership contender to have displayed Eurosceptic beliefs, even if they were in the distant past.
For him to lose tomorrows vote would be a disaster for democracy in Britain. Voters would be left with a choice between three traditional parties who all say essentially the same thing.
I wish Iain all the best in tomorrows ballot. Should he fail, however, UKIP can look forward to a significant boost in membership applications as the Conservative Party drops its Eurosceptic posturing. ENDS
Notes to Editors:
Roger Knapman is the leader of the U.K. Independence Party, and until 1997 was the Conservative MP for Stroud. A former whip, he was a Maastricht rebels alongside Iain Duncan Smith.

SOUTH WEST ASSEMBLY ADMITS NO DEBATE - MEP STORMS OUT!!
At the Autumn meeting of the SW Regional Assembly for the EU region UKK4, at the County Hall, Exeter today, Graham Booth MEP UKIP was refused permission to make a point of order regarding questions from the public.
Chairman Michael Hannay would not let Graham Booth draw attention to the parody of public question time, stating that as the MEP was not member of the assembly, he could only make points during the MP/MEP slot at the end of the session. Accordingly, Graham Booth and a large number (18) of the public withdrew in protest from the Assembly.
Questions from the public about the affairs of the Assembly have to be submitted in writing 2 weeks before the Assembly meets, and "in order not to waste the Assembly's time" the Secretariat had decreed that the Questions and Answers are prepared and distributed at the meeting as a fait accompli. The Chairman then asks for any comments from the Assembly Members, and being none, it's all over - so much for "open transparency" and "bringing government closer to the people".
Speaking outside after his exit, Graham Booth said: "This Assembly looks and behaves more and more like their masters at the EU. They are simply going through the motions 3 times a year in order to give the impression of accountability and openness, but when challenged to engage in a sensible debate with the public, they simply shunt the questions into a cul-de-sac. Members receive their massive papers in the week of the Assembly and have no real idea of what is happening, apart from the dedicated few who drive this entire process. It is a charade of democracy, and is consuming taxpayers money at a rate which is accelerating and alarming, and yet has no mandate from the electorate. That this should be happening in England by stealth is an insult to our democratic traditions, and I am angry that the ballot box can be by-passed in this way."

UKIP membership applications up 50% as Tories dump IDS
The U.K. Independence Party announced today that membership applications to its National Call Centre in Ashford, Kent, had risen by 50% since the result of the Conservative confidence ballot was announced on Wednesday night.
The party said that calls had increased almost as soon as the result was announced, and that it expected the increase to be sustained amid rumours of a deal over Europe between Michael Howard and Europhile former Chancellor Ken Clarke.
UKIP call centre director John Moran said, The phones started ringing off the hook almost as soon as the result was announced. Applications more than doubled on Wednesday evening and we had to call in more staff to handle the volume. Since then, call volumes have been up by 50%.
U.K. Independence Party leader Roger Knapman, a former Maastricht rebel alongside Iain Duncan Smith, said, Rank and file Conservatives are worried on two counts. Firstly they object to being sidelined by an uncharacteristic display of party unity which denies them a choice of leader, and secondly they fear a deal over Europe between Howard and Clarke.
The Conservatives have long attempted to appear Eurosceptic without actually having any Eurosceptic policies. The departure of IDS has exposed the Consefvatives as Britains third and newest Social Democratic Party, which is prepared to accept closer EU integration as the price for power, and they are seeing UKIP as the natural alternative. Letter bombs and diminished democracy prove UKIP prediction correct
The U.K. Independence Party said today that the spate of letter bombs sent to leading European Union politicians were the price of forcing a political ideal on people without giving them a choice.
The Party said that it had been warning for over 10 years that the absence of democracy within the European Union, and the failure to give people a choice as to whether they wished to participate or not, would end in civil unrest and violence.
U.K. Independence Party MEP Nigel Farage said that this prediction was now coming true, and that while the party deplored the bombs, it could understand the reasons behind them.
Mr Farage said, We have spent 10 years warning that the route the European Union has chosen for itself, to swallow up nation states without giving the people of Europe the final say, was destined to end in civil unrest and violence. It would appear that that prediction is now coming true.
We can only hope that the EU comes to its senses and listens to the people. If it fails to do so, then there is clearly a very real danger of an accelerating wave of attacks as more and more extremist groups resort to violence as they are denied democracy. ENDS

Hypocrisy claim as Titley condemns UKIP but forgets to include Lord Healey
The U.K. Independence Party today condemned Labour MEP Gary Titley for his
hypocrisy after he attacked UKIP for warning that the current letter bomb
campaign was likely to continue if the European Union continued to ignore the
people.
The Party said that Mr Titley had conveniently overlooked similar remarks made
by former Labour Chancellor Lord Healey during a debate in the House of Lords on
EMU in 1996, when he said that monetary union would provoke widespread
discontent and that to set up an organisation of this importance against the
will of so many people would be a disaster...and would provoke riots on the
streets.
UKIP MEP Nigel Farage said Now the chickens are coming home to roost, it is far
easier for Mr Titley to smear the messenger than it is for him to address the
issues. It is just unfortunate for Mr Titley that even senior members of his own
party have made similar warnings in the past. Does he also condemn Lord Healey?
Mr Farage continued, We categorically reject the use of violence in politics and
condemn the sending of the letter bombs, but we would be failing in our duty if
we did not point out that this threat is real, is with us, and unless the issues
behind the current campaign are addressed, could intensify.
The only way to ensure that this terror campaign ends here is to give the people
a say on their own future, not just with a referendum here, but with similar
polls across the European Union. ENDS

08/01/2004 PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FROM: UKIP SW PRESS OFFICE : 01395 276130/0797 7797698
EUROPEAN ELECTIONS JUNE 10TH 2004
UKIP MEETS TO PREPARE FOR THE EUROPEAN ELECTION CAMPAIGN
The UKIP MEP candidates are meeting this weekend in Torbay to prepare for the next 5 months of campaigning for the election of MEPs for the European Parliament, which takes place across Europe on the 10th June.
In addition to the 3 existing MEPs:
Graham Booth of Torbay representing the Southwest
Nigel Farage of the South East
Jeffrey Titford of East Anglia
the majority of the remaining 75 candidates will be meeting to review and discuss policy, strategy and media training. Amongst the group there will be Roger Knapman, Party Leader, David Lott, Party Chairman and Dick Morris, the renowned political strategist from the USA.
Dick Morris is widely regarded as the leading political strategist of the day, having advised governments across the world, and successfully assisted Bill Clinton in 2 Presidential campaigns in the 1990s. Morris is strongly attracted to the UKIP cause as he sees that a major injustice is being perpetrated on the British people by the political elite. They have deliberately misled the people and carefully avoided the electorate on the EU issue for the last 30 years, and only UKIP is offering the electorate the opportunity to say "NO" to the EU in the upcoming election.
With UKIP recording 1 million votes in the last election in 1999 when it was largely unknown, the view is that the 2004 election will significantly increase that vote and return many more MEPs. This will send the strongest possible message to the major parties that the EU issue must be put to the electorate in a democratic manner at either a referendum or a general election, as promised by Tony Blair when he was first elected.

UKIP smash BNP plot and expel infiltrators
The U.K. Independence Party today announced that it had smashed an infiltration attempt by the far-right British National Party.
UKIP said it had intercepted e-mails which indicated a far reaching plan to disrupt the partys campaign for the European elections in June and to distort the result of UKIPs on-going elections to its ruling National Executive Committee.
As a result, it had today expelled John Brayshaw, of Easingwold, Yorkshire, who had joined the partys Vale of York branch in late October and whom it had discovered was also a senior BNP official.
UKIP also confirmed the expulsion of Andrew Edwards, a former Chairman of UKIPs Bath branch, who was discovered to be passing information to the BNP.
UKIP Chairman David Lott said, We are aware that the BNP is targeting UKIP, and as a consequence are always vigilant for attempts such as this. There are no circumstances under which we would ever deal with the BNP, or any other extremist party.
UKIP Euro elections candidate for Yorkshire & Humberside, Godfrey Bloom, echoed Mr Lotts sentiments, adding, It is difficult for a party which is growing as fast as UKIP to keep track of who has joined, as we have doubled our membership to over 20,000 in just over a year.
Extremists such as Brayshaw and Edwards should be aware, however, that we will find them and expel them in the end. Their views will simply not be tolerated within UKIP.

83 year-old summonsed for £98 council tax
Elizabeth Winkfield, of Westward Ho! in North Devon has been summonsed to appear in Barnstaple Magistrate's Court on Thursday 19th February for refusing to pay what she considers to be an unjustified increase in her council tax.
After making an allowance for inflation from the previous year, Elizabeth, who lives alone, has paid her council tax of more than £700, but excluded the excess of £98 above that amount. She argues that her council is guilty of making illegal payments to the SW Regional Assembly and a SW Brussels office, for which it has no mandate, and that council tax should be only for local services.
The SW Regional Assembly is a voluntary body of self-appointed people pursuing John Prescott's "dream" of regional government, and which has little or no support from the population in the SW, despite Prescott's desire to "bring government closer to the people". It is a government in waiting with no legal authority, and Elizabeth Winkfield believes that it is wrong for her council tax being used to support such a political experiment.
The SWRA levies "subscriptions" from the counties and districts in the SW, and these, together with the costs of the SW Brussels office amount to more than £1 million of council taxpayers money. It now employs 54 full-time staff in Taunton with a wage bill of more than £2 million.
The EU has a programme of fully integrating the regions across the EU, and the regional assemblies are part of that plan - but they have no mandate for taxing 83-year old pensioners, or indeed anyone - yet.

Ill go to jail rather than pay, says UKIP council tax protester
U.K. Independence Party member and council tax protester Elizabeth Winkfield has said she would rather go to jail than pay the huge increase in her council tax.
Her comments came after Bideford magistrates issued a liability order requiring her to pay the £98.80 she withheld from last years council tax in protest at the 18.5% increase imposed by her council, plus £10 court costs.
However, 83 year old Ms Winkfield insisted that she was in the right, and would rather go to jail than pay the outstanding sum, which she said was wasted by the council. She cited payments to the South West Regional Assembly and the expense of maintaining an office in Brussels as waste for which the council had no mandate to levy taxes for.
UKIP MEP for the South Western Counties, Graham Booth, said, The huge increases in council tax across my constituency have generated considerable anger, especially among the elderly, who are least able to pay.
Council tax payers such as Elizabeth are entitled to ask why the councils are collecting cash on behalf of the Regional Assembly and funding offices in Brussels when it is unable to maintain local services to a decent standard. ENDS

For Immediate Release 2nd March 2004
CPS name change signals end of British legal system
The U.K. Independence Party said today that the decision to change the name of the Crown Prosecution Service to the Public Prosecution Service would dovetail nicely with proposals in the EU Constitution to create a European Public Prosecutor. These proposals were confirmed last week when the Commission published its Annual policy strategy for 2005 (Com(2004) 113).
UKIP said that the European Commission document set as a policy priority for 2005 the establishment of a genuine European area of common justice in criminal matters, including the common definition of offences and sanctions for serious forms of crime.
The Party said that taken with the proposal in the EU Constitution to create a European Public Prosecutor, it was clear that the government was attempting to breach one of its EU related red lines by stealth, and that it had clearly accepted the EUs intention to impose Corpus Juris.
U.K. Independence Party MEP Nigel Farage said, The appointment of Tonys Crony Ken MacDonald to run the CPS was much remarked upon in the media last year, although few realised then that it would signal the end of the traditional British system of justice.
It is clear now that the EUs insistence on imposing corpus juris on the UK will mean the end of our Common Law rights to trial by jury, the presumption of innocence and our right to due process, none of which exist in European law. As usual, the government is lying down and acceding to these demands rather than fighting to protect the historic rights of British citizens. ENDS
Notes to Editors
The creation of the European Public Prosecutor is contained within article III-175 of the proposed EU Constitution.

UKIP Top Team visits Jersey seeking Support
Roger Knapman, Leader, and Graham Booth MEP for the Southwest, arrive in Jersey March 23rd in advance of the elections to the European Parliament on June 10th. A public Meeting will be held at the Royal Yacht Hotel on the 24th March, and UKIP will be stressing it's message of independent self-government for the whole of the United Kingdom, and the Crown dependencies such as the Channel Islands.
The existing system of government throughout the UK has been developed over a long period and suits the population, which has never been consulted as to whether it wishes to become fully integrated, both politically and economically, with an EU superstate. The original prospectus for the Common Market, for which a majority vote was gained in 1975, is now known to have been fraudulent, as the true destination of the founders of the EU was carefully hidden by lies and deception.
Now that destination is visible, and an entirely new Constitution is proposed, the people must be consulted , and the UKIP team will be warning of the dangers of that Constitution, and describing how voting for UKIP MEPs can help to reclaim our independence. Of particular concern is that the EU Superstate with it's own legal identity, will effectively demolish the constitutional Monarchy. This could have serious implications for the CI. As Crown Dependencies, they owe their allegiance to the Sovereign - not to the British Government and certainly not to the European Union.
This is indeed an appropriate subject for public debate, as all 3 major parties in the UK are totally committed to the UK's continuing membership of the EU, whilst only UKIP offers the voter a chance to say "NO" to the EU.

TITFORD SCORNS BELL 'THE MAN IN THE BROWN SUIT'
Jeffrey Titford, the UK Independence Party MEP for the Eastern Counties has attacked Martin Bell's announcement of his campaign for the European Parliament. Mr Titford said: "So Mr Bell wants to jump on the euro-bandwagon. He is clearly a political opportunist and wants his place on the EU gravy train.
"He must have a huge ego because the notion that this London resident can suddenly take up the cudgels for Suffolk and Norfolk, as a lone independent, get the electoral voting system for the European Parliament changed and deal with EU corruption, all by himself, is laughable. Is he aware that there are more than 600 MEPs in the Parliament? Voters would be much better advised to support my Party, at least we all live in the Constituency and have candidates on our list representing all six counties in the region. We have been opposing the European Union and its closed list voting system for five years!
"Mr Bell also needs to get his facts right. He went on the Today programme on Friday (5.3.04) and accused all candidates in the region of being 'carpetbaggers' because none of them come from Norfolk or Suffolk. UKIP has candidates from both counties on its list, so an apology from Mr Bell would be very welcome. Despite his protestations to the contrary, he clearly wants to fight a dirty campaign in which he smears his opponents. Perhaps he should now be thought of as 'the man in the brown suit'.
"The only real choice for any voter seeking an independent voice in the European Parliament is to vote for the UK Independence Party. We already have three MEPs and we hope to have many more after this election. We really can make a difference because we are not a loan voice crying in the darkness, as Mr Bell would be. We will keep standing up for Britain and calling for withdrawal from the European Union".
Jeffrey Titford, is the UK Independence Party MEP for the Eastern Counties and is their lead candidate for the 2004 European Election.

Tory policy on EU Constitution wilfully misleading
The U.K. Independence Party today accused Tory leader Michael Howard of being wilfully misleading over his partys approach to the proposed EU Constitution.
UKIP said that Mr Howard had repeatedly refused to offer a referendum should the Conservatives come to power after the Constitution was agreed whilst ruling out the only measure which would force renegotiation by other EU states British withdrawal from the European Union.
UKIP MEP Nigel Farage described the Conservative position as a complete nonsense and said that Mr Howard was opposing the EU Constitution whilst not offering any credible alternative should his party gain power.
Mr Farage continued, Mr Howard is terrified of the split within the Conservative Party that a threat to leave the European Union would create. Its business as usual at Tory Party headquarters putting party before country just as John Major did when he signed the Maastricht Treaty. ENDS

A motion of censure will today (31st March 2004) be served on the European Commission over its failure to act on or take responsibility for the revelations of massive fraud at the EU's statistical office,
EUROSTAT. Jeffrey Titford, the UK Independence Party's MEP for the Eastern Counties is one of the four proposers of the motion, which could lead to the dismissal of the whole Commission for the second time in five years.
Mr Titford said: "The motion required the supporting signatures of a minimum of 63 MEPs. I am pleased to say that we comfortably passed that target and my fellow UKIP MEPs were the first in line. It is one of the many absurdities of the system that we cannot censure individual Commissioners. It is all or none. However, the revelations from EUROSTAT of more than £3 million in fraud and the conspicuous absence of action by the Commission, compelled us to act. We should always remember that 'EU fraud' means British taxpayers money going AWOL. Unlike the Commission, I am not prepared to sit idly by and watch any more of it being wasted".
The motion will go before the European Parliament during its next session in April for a full vote by MEPs. It could lead to the dismissal of the entire European Commission. This has only happened once before, when the Jacques Santer Commission resigned in disgrace in 1999.
The four initiators of the motion are Jeffrey Titford MEP (East of England), the Danish MEP and President of the European Parliamentary EDD Group, Jens-Peter Bonde, Jean-Louis Bernie MEP (France) and Rijk Van Dam (Netherlands).
Jeffrey Titford, is the UK Independence Party MEP for the Eastern Counties and is their lead candidate for the 2004 European Election.
