Herald Express readers have voted overwhelmingly to keep the British flag flying over Torbay.

In a telephone poll, 234 readers voted 'Yes' agreeing with the council's proposal to rotate the British flag with the European Union flag at the Town Hall and remove the national flag from some seafront locations, replacing it with the EU flag.

But 2092 readers voted 'No' saying the British flag should be kept flying.

The controversial plans prompted council staff to start a petition in protest - more than 130 staff have signed it so far.

Council Leader, Chris Harris, has stated it is a reasonable compromise to rotate the flags reflecting the fact that we are loyal to England, Britain and Europe and Torbay needs to look towards Europe for funding.
