Young Independence Launch Ahead

What a great launch UKIP Young Independence South West had on 31st January, but it was not without the odd hiccup.

A hall had been booked in the centre of town, but when it was realised a UKIP function was to take place, the Lib Dem led council found an obscure rule that prohibits political meetings  – and cancelled the booking (well fancy that, I hear you say).

A number of prominent speeches were made including one by our very own Dan Evans and another by Harjit Gill, a recent Labour defector.

Of particular note was the Cross Party Debate, chaired by Dan Evans. Representatives were present from Young Labour, the Young Conservatives, the Green Party, The Youth Parliament, and UKIP YI.  Unfortunately the Lib Dems did not respond to their invitation.

A number of topical issues such as the NHS and Education were put forward by the audience, and discussed in what turned out to be a very good natured and enjoyable debate.

  1. Our YI member, Tom and myself, enjoyed the day immensely. Well worth the drive from St. Ives, and a bit of a slippery run home in the hail & sleet afterwards.. Congratulations to the organisers. You all got the measure of it just right. It puts great heart into the older generation ( like me ) to see all you young people on track with the real world.
