Dr Julia Reid MEP attended a science policy debate on Wednesday 11th
March to talk about the role of science in the UK.

With a PhD in Pharmacology and a background in biochemistry research, Dr
Julia Reid MEP took to the panel alongside representatives from the
Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrats, SNP and Plaid Cymru parties.

The debate turned to the issue of immigration, with Dr Julia Reid
commenting that there is a place in the UK for skilled immigrants, including
scientists, under the points based immigration system UKIP propose. Dr
Julia Reid also commented that this system would not prevent students from
outside of the UK studying STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering,
Maths and Medicine) subjects coming to study and work in the UK. In fact,
leaving the EU would enable more talented people to come to the UK from
all over the world.

Dr Julia Reid MEP also outlined UKIP’s policy to abolish tuition fees for UK
students studying STEMM subjects.
