Portland, on the southern most tip of Dorset, was the venue for UKIP Dorset’s Councillor Day on Saturday 7th February. Those attending the event, taking place in Portland Town Council Chamber, listened to four speakers, the first being Richard Dickinson, a former councillor at Kenilworth Town Council, chairman of Arun District Council and later Cotswolds District Council.
Said Richard: “Having really enjoyed some 15 years of rewarding and interesting experience in local politics I am happy to pass on my thoughts to aspiring candidates. My time has been spent in three counties serving on and chairing many different committees and including the role of District Chairman. In addition to the duties there is also the advantage of the social connections and friendships which one makes.
UKIP with its fresh and innovative policies can provide those willing to stand with a most rewarding experience.”
Other speakers included Cllr Francis Drake (Weymouth) and Cllr Tony Woodcock (Poole), and UKIP Poole chairman David Darling. David Nevett, chairman of UKIP West Dorset, kindly chaired proceedings and the event was organised by constituency manager Guy Parfitt.
