UKIP Parliamentary candidate Chris Harlow has spoken out today against the proposed Refuse Plant at the centre of the Cotswolds Water Park in South Cerney.
Said Chris: “Once again local residents are being let down by the Coalition’s planning policy. Here we have a council being allowed to adjudicate on it’s own application – surely contrary to democratic principles. We have an immensely unpopular application over which local residents have little opportunity for their objections to be heard. And we have a council placing a dirty industrial process adjacent to a residential area and childrens playground.”
The aim of the council was to deal with 40 thousand tons of rubbish per year, and the Cotswolds’ proposed rubbish site would involve some 350 daily journeys by lorries of up to 26 tons on local roads. These local roads have an accident history, and are presently without footways. The refuse tip would be adjacent to a new lakeside play area.
The Water Park, originally adapted from gravel workings, has been transformed to a lakeland area, which is now a worldwide attraction for holiday accomodation and water sports. The Water Park is also a haven for water birds and other wildlife and there is concern about pollution of the lakes, endangering wildlife.
