Tony McIntyre is a retired teacher, and now director of a leading Devon Community Interest Company.
Educated in Lichfield, Staffordshire and Oswestry School in Shropshire, Tony gained a Cert.Ed. at Bede College, Durham in 1974, followed by an Open University BA.
An English and History teacher for 30 years in schools in Buckinghamshire, Kent and West Sussex, Tony was Head of English at every school he taught at. A county-standard rugby player, he was also Director of Sport and Head of Drama, as well as a boarding housemaster.
Retiring in 2005, Tony moved to his long-term home in Devon, and practises as a personal tutor, preparing children for GCSE and A-level exams.
In 2008 he was invited to join the board of Devon Wheels to Work, a CIC involved in providing transport services for the disabled to support their employment.
A cricket umpire qualified to Amateur Premier Division standard, he is a member of the committee of Heathcoat Cricket Club in Tiverton. He is also a qualified licensee.
Tony joined UKIP in 2007, convinced that withdrawing from the EU was Britain’s only hope for a free and prosperous future. He soon became chairman of the Tiverton & Honiton Branch, Devon County and the South West Region. As well as standing regularly in local elections, he stood as the candidate for Taunton Deane in the 2010 General Election. He is the adopted PPC for Torbay.
